Light Tubes and Lamps

In July 2005, fluorescent lights are classified as hazardous waste and can therefore only be collected and disposed of by a licensed waste management company. and require treatment in accordance with Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005. As Willow Environmental is a licensed Hazardous Waste contractor, will arrange for the necessary documentation, collection and processing of your redundant fluorescent light tubes and other lighting products.

Fluorescent tubes contain many components that maybe hazardous and "dead" tubes should be disposed of safely. In fact, Fluorescent light tubes contain enough mercury to contaminate 30,000 litres of water and mercury is the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Number One environmental poison. Willow Environmental Ltd is licensed by the Environment Agency to carry waste and will provide all the relevant paperwork to the customer to ensure that disposal is in accordance with the law.

Willow safeguards the interests of its customers and enables them to demonstrate best environmental practice, at the same time providing them with a recognized audit trail for management systems.

We deliver boxes ("coffins") to the customer’s place of business. These boxes are marked with black and yellow diagonal stripes warning of hazardous contents. When the box has been filled with redundant tubes and lamps, we collect the box and leave a replacement empty box.

When we remove the box we supply the customer with a Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note which should be kept on the file for two years in compliance with the relevant Health and Safety Procedures and the Environment Protection Act (Duty of Care Regulations) 1991.
